As for its history,
Ice Cream Haze is a US-inspired old-school Haze hybrid based on an old-school Haze strain and the well-known and sought-after American Ice Cream Cake genetics. This F1 hybrid cross was developed years ago by breeder Antonio (35 Cannabis Cups in the last 7 years!).
Originally only available as a regular strain, but due to the excellent feedback, a few years later it is now also available as a feminized cross.
The Haze mother of this cross comes from a Crockett's Haze selection. This is a very vigorous, fast-growing sativa plant that can produce truly exceptional yields (750 g+/m2). Ice Cream Haze is a tropical fruit-scented Haze variety that is very sticky and tastes fantastic too.
The pollinators of Ice Cream Cake (Gelato x Wedding Cake) (both male and female) are truly two gems. Both are vigorous, stable and root quickly. In addition to a powerful terpene profile, the mother always delivers compact, easy-to-cut, potent buds with a beautiful appearance.
And the father comes with a strong aroma (especially after rubbing on the “stem”), strong branches and a good masculine top structure with the bonus of very frosty sugar leaves.
Combining two different strains (one being a full-fledged sativa and the other a slightly more indica-dominant hybrid) results in a truly unique product. Ice Cream Haze is therefore suitable for lovers of fast-growing plants with generous yields of strong-smelling/tasting cannabis.
The growth of Ice Cream Haze
Ice Cream Haze is a stable and robust cannabis strain with a sativa dominance. These ladies exhibit a vigorous growth pattern throughout their lifecycle (during both the vegetative and the cannabis flowering phases). The plants develop strong, solid branches and stretch vigorously during flowering.
Generally, the sativa appearance dominates, with large, long leaves and the desirable full/long, spear-like buds. With the addition of the Ice Cream Cake genetics, there are also various phenotypes that more closely resemble the characteristics and structure of the hybrid.
This usually means a slightly more compact bud and a slightly faster flowering time than the purer sativa/Haze-dominant plants. On average, the flowering time is between 8 and 10 weeks – relatively fast for a Haze cannabis strain. However, sometimes plants take a little longer to fully mature. Especially when the indoor or outdoor climate has not been optimal.
Most plants will finish growing for about 2.5 to 4 weeks indoors after the clock is changed to 12/12 flowering conditions. This makes them ideal for growing in both SOG and SCROG methods. These two growing methods also deliver the highest yields. The power of the F1 hybrid is clearly present in this cross.
These are easy-to-grow plants that are also well suited to outdoor growing. However, keep in mind that this strain is not suitable for growing in temperate/cold climates due to its relatively long flowering time.
In a sunny, dry (e.g. Mediterranean) climate, this strain thrives and, under good conditions, produces plants that can easily reach a height of 3 meters and sometimes grow just as wide! Combined with the right care and climatic conditions, yields per plant can easily exceed 1 kg (dry buds).
Ice Cream Haze seeds produce plants with extremely high XXL yields. Under the right conditions, their elongated, spear-like flowers can grow into long, solid flowers – about 40–50 cm. The long buds have a short to medium internodal distance.
This ensures that the flowers grow in a tightly packed formation and that yields are therefore high. When grown indoors, Ice Cream Haze can also produce very large harvests. A yield of around 600 grams/m² can be easily achieved.
In the hands of an expert, even more is possible and with the right cultivation method, yields of around 700 grams/m² can be achieved. Outdoors, plants grown in a warm and sunny climate will yield an average of between 0.5 and 1 kg per plant, especially if they are well started indoors before the start of the outdoor season.
Ice Cream Haze buds are super white and sticky, and brimming with trichomes! The branches fill up beautifully with buds that merge into dense, luscious flowers. The top flowers (main flowers) often grow to 25-50 cm (80-200 feet) long (when grown naturally) and become so heavy that they need to be supported. By topping/fimming (HST, cannabis high-stress training) during the growth phase (possibly several times) and using LST (low-stress training) or the SCROG technique, you can control their size to a certain extent.
The frosty appearance is really beautiful to look at. Ice Cream Haze combines an intense Haze profile with the coveted Cookie smell and taste that everyone wants once the buds have dried. This is a “new school” cannabis strain that you will love!
It can tolerate high temperatures (30-35+°C) quite well, although this can delay bud maturation in the late flowering phase. If possible, maintain an optimized indoor climate of 21–27 °C (70–80 °F).
Outdoors, it is recommended to grow Ice Cream Haze only in slightly sunnier, warmer (and generally drier) climates. It is not suitable for growing in cold/wet regions. However, it thrives in Mediterranean conditions and hilly areas.
When grown in a sunny and warm climate, plants of this variety can grow into real monsters! It can tolerate quite a bit of rain, but does not like its roots to be waterlogged. The combination of wetness and cold is very unfavorable and should therefore be avoided if possible.
