Skywalker Auto was not a project that Mephisto had firmly planned from the start. They are generally reluctant to work with feminized seeds when the line does not come from their own hands. Not because feminized genetics would fundamentally be a problem for them. For them, the male side of a breeding line is simply important too.
Before the first outdoor season after moving to Spain, they wanted to make full use of the new climate and dug deep into their own stash for that. Among it were several fem packs of Skywalker Kush from the Reserva Privada line by DNA Genetics. At the same time, quite a few other strains were also in outdoor testing.
After the summer, one mother from Skywalker Kush in particular remained. Indica-leaning, compact, early flowering and with strong side branches. She responded cleanly to training, grew broad outdoors and also made a strong impression indoors. For Mephisto, that made it clear: exactly this cut should become an auto.
Over two outdoor seasons and later also indoors, the mother kept showing what she could do. A clear OG profile, firm flowers, solid yield for an OG line and a growth pattern that could be controlled well. In 2014 they therefore crossed her with pollen from their Auto Triangle Kush F4. This was very coherent in that combination because both lines complemented each other well in structure and profile.
The F1 was selected at the end of 2014. At the beginning of 2015, the next round was already underway. Around 30 plants stood indoors, in the end nine females remained. Only one was pollinated.
Already in flower it was possible to see in individual plants where the direction was heading. The small leaves at the bud sites looked slightly curled, and then there was that typical smell. After several rounds of selection, the plant for the F2 was set. At the latest during the aroma test, it was clear that the Skywalker influence was coming through. The hash from the original cut was also excellent because it was extremely oily and melted cleanly.
In spring 2015, the F2 seeds were sown. Out of more than 70 plants, ten female autos remained. Two of them moved on: one compact, vigorous plant with broad indica leaves and one longer, more open variant with slimmer flowers, but with a very strong resin and terpene profile. For the F3, the choice fell on the slimmer plant.
In autumn 2015, the F3 followed. Again, more than 70 plants were started. 20 female plants made it through to the end. The best three ultimately formed the basis for the feminized F4 of the Artisanal line.
The growth of Skywalker
Skywalker is uncomplicated in cultivation and the typical smell is present very early. The plants stay in the medium range and grow vigorously. With light defoliation, the energy can be pushed well into the buds without the strain overreacting. The more open structure additionally helps get light and air into the lower areas.
The internodes remain moderate, which makes the strain easy to steer. In flower it then shows a very distinct picture: fine leaves push out of the buds and often roll slightly upward. The flowers do not become huge, but they are dense and hard. The buds sit evenly across the whole plant. The smell can become very intense toward the end of flower.
The effect of Skywalker
Skywalker presses noticeably into the body and with high consumption acts almost sedating. First you notice it in the legs and shoulders, shortly after that it is also noticeable in the head. This is not a strain for productive hours. In the evening or when relaxation is needed, it fits much better. Many reach for this strain when exactly that deep, calming direction is being sought.
Smell and taste of Skywalker
The profile has everything of an OG direction: earthy, a little diesel, pine-heavy and on the back end with a slightly sour citrus note. When smoked, exactly this line remains. Added to that is a slightly sharp note and something sweet-herbal on the finish.
