The backbone of Gelato Auto is unmistakable: Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and Sunset Sherbet provide the well-known Gelato profile – creamy, sweet and clearly in the dessert segment – while our Seeds66 Ruderalis contributes the automatic flowering trait and extra robustness. The goal was to create an auto that still looks and tastes like real Gelato, but runs through its entire life cycle without any need to change the light schedule.
In our test runs we focused on phenotypes that tick two main boxes: first, dense buds with deep purple hues, bright orange pistils and a thick layer of resin; second, a consistent performance over several cycles. Especially with a first-generation automatic version, it was important to us that the typical Gelato character stays intact and that a life cycle of roughly 65 to 70 days from seed to harvest is realistically achievable.
Growth & cultivation
Gelato Auto grows compact to medium in size and usually stays between 30 and 90 cm indoors. She forms a solid main stem with numerous side branches and tends to develop a bushy structure when treated well. One key point: she reacts clearly to feeding and does not enjoy being pushed too hard. In many set-ups, around half of the fertiliser manufacturer’s recommendation is enough – better to build up slowly than to overload her from the start.
Indoors she feels most comfortable at temperatures around 22 to 24 °C with good air exchange and a well-ventilated canopy. Outdoors, Gelato Auto typically reaches 80 to 150 cm and performs well in pots or open ground. On a sunny, sheltered spot with light, airy soil, yields around 60 to 120 g per plant are a realistic target for such a fast strain.
Seeds66 tip: With Gelato Auto, restraint pays off: start gently with nutrients and give her time to settle into her final pot. A slightly lighter feed, stable temperatures and a well-aerated root zone usually bring better results than maximum EC. Once she has built her structure, focus on even watering and good airflow so she can finish her 65–70 day life cycle without stress.
