CBD Mexican Gold by Seeds66 traces its roots back to the classic, pure Mexican sativa landraces that were cultivated in the mountains of Central America for generations. This CBD-balanced interpretation keeps the bright, energetic spirit of the original Mexican Gold lines but shifts the overall feel into a far more manageable range. With roughly 6–8% THC and 6–8% CBD, the effect stays clear and uplifting without overwhelming intensity.

Origin & Seeds66 Selection
Mexican Gold is one of the classic sativa landraces that left a mark on cannabis culture long before modern hybrids dominated the market. This CBD-oriented version preserves the essential traits: tall structure, bright mind-lift and a floral-fruity profile. What changes is the tone. Instead of a soaring, sometimes edgy high, the balanced cannabinoids create a smoother, steadier effect.
During our test cycles in California, we focused on phenotypes that stayed structurally consistent, reacted well to training and maintained a predictable flowering pattern. CBD Mexican Gold showed strongest performance in plants that stretched early but settled well under training nets. Only after this reproducible behaviour was confirmed did the line move into the official Seeds66 catalogue.
Growth & Cultivation
CBD Mexican Gold embraces its landrace nature: indoors, untrained plants can pass 140 cm easily, while topped plants form a structured canopy with strong branching. The cultivar adapts extremely well to ScrOG setups, where its natural vertical energy is redirected into a productive, wide flowering layer.
The flowering period is around 70 days. Despite its airy sativa morphology, the line shows solid resilience against mould and pests, making it suitable for growers who cannot control every environmental detail. Indoor yields average around 500–600 g/m²; outdoors, in deep soil and full sun, plants often exceed 800 g and can approach 1 kg per plant.
Outdoor specimens may reach up to 4 m in height, reflecting their landrace heritage. Harvest typically falls between late September and mid October. The buds cure into firm, resinous clusters with the orange pistils often associated with the classic “Gold” varieties.
Seeds66 Tip:
Train CBD Mexican Gold early. Topping in week three or four, followed by a well-tensioned ScrOG net, keeps the vertical stretch under control and ensures even ripening across all branches – essential for dense, uniform gold-tinted colas.
Aroma & Terpenes
Once dried, CBD Mexican Gold releases a floral, lightly sweet aroma layered with caramel notes and a subtle citrus lift. Breaking the buds intensifies the warm, spicy-fruity undertone, while the smoke itself remains smooth and pleasantly aromatic.
Typical terpene contributors include Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Limonene. Together they support the bright, animated yet grounded character for which this line is known, without drifting into sharp or overly herbal expressions sometimes found in old-school landraces.
Effects
With roughly equal amounts of THC and CBD, CBD Mexican Gold delivers a moderated sativa experience: clear, energizing, mood-brightening and accompanied by a gentle physical ease. Instead of a racing high, the uplift stays centered and steady, making it easier to enjoy without tipping into restlessness.
This makes the strain suitable for daytime activity, creative work, social settings or light outdoor adventures. Its balanced structure retains the lively nature of classic Mexican sativas while softening the edges that traditionally made them too intense for some users.
Seeds66 Ethos
CBD Mexican Gold demonstrates how a traditional landrace can be adapted into a more approachable and versatile modern line. In our California test cycles, we prioritized uniformity, resilience and reproducibility – qualities essential for a landrace-based strain to perform consistently in contemporary grow environments.
As always: Only strains that remain stable across multiple test runs earn a place in the Seeds66 lineup.
